Uriel Sandkovsky, M.D., internal medicine – infectious diseases, for a study comparing the safety and effectiveness of a new antiviral single dose combination given once daily with conventional antiviral combination therapies in HIV-1, ART naïve women. Dr. Sandkovsky will lead the sole Nebraska site for this study which is currently recruiting participants.

UNMC physician serves as advisor to TV program
Fans of the televised drama “Nashville” may have been affected by the pregnancy storyline that Kimberly Williams-Paisley’s character, Peggy Kenter, underwent earlier this year — but they may not have known that some of the medical nuts and bolts behind that storyline were supplied by UNMC’s Paul Paulman, M.D., family medicine.

Lori Maness-Harris, M.D., internal medicine – oncology/hematology, is the UNMC lead for a study on the effectiveness of a new antibody-drug conjugate that targets a cell surface marker on B-cell malignancies. Dr. Maness Harris will serve as the sole Nebraska site for this study, which is currently recruiting participants.

Editor’s Note: Each month, InterCOM will highlight a “Student of the Month” from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.
