Lori Maness-Harris, M.D., internal medicine – oncology/hematology, is the UNMC lead for a study on the effectiveness of a new antibody-drug conjugate that targets a cell surface marker on B-cell malignancies. Dr. Maness Harris will serve as the sole Nebraska site for this study, which is currently recruiting participants.

Dr. Vose elected president of ASCO
UNMC’s Julie Vose, M.D., has been elected president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for a one-year term beginning in June 2015. Dr. Vose will take office as president-elect during the ASCO annual meeting in Chicago in June 2014.

UNMC Eye Institute unveils two-story wall mural celebrating ‘Gift of Sight’
UNMC faculty and staff are encouraged to stop by the Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute and check out the “The Gift of Sight,” a roughly 13′ x 21′ mural designed to recognize vision-saving efforts throughout the world.

Dmitry Oleynikov, M.D., surgery, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Excellence in Medical Leadership Award by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). The award recognizes a distinguished SAGES member for exemplary leadership potential and helps optimize the honoree’s future impact in the medical industry. Dr. Oleynikov will be honored on April 2 at the 8th Annual SAGES Foundation Awards Luncheon in Salt Lake City.

Fourth annual UNMC Skate-a-thon to raise funds for Parkinson’s research
Previous three Skate-a-thons have raised total of $110,000
The show must go on.
Even though Colleen Wuebben, the driving force behind the UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s, passed away 10 months ago, the fourth annual event will continue on Jan. 10-11 at the UNMC Ice Rink.

New version of One Chart successfully installed
On Nov. 10, One Chart Version 2012 was successfully installed on campus. The upgrade provides the most current version of the Epic electronic health record since the rollout last year. By all accounts, the transfer to the new system went well.
