Construction on the new Center for Clinical Excellence (CCE) has begun. In the coming weeks and months, more construction activity will take place.

The UNMC Intellectual Property Office (IPO) will acknowledge UNMC inventors at this year’s upcoming annual Inventors Recognition Reception. All inventors are invited to attend the reception, which will take place on June 10, 2003, in the University Hospital Private Dining Room.

Drakes named ‘legacy family’ at UNMC
McCook, Neb., residents Richard and Mary Lou Drake always encouraged their seven children to “aim for the top of the tree.”
The children heeded their parents’ advice and have continued to climb to life’s uppermost branches. Five of the Drake children – Cathy, Carol, Cindy, Casey and Mary Kay (Markie) – graduated with degrees from UNMC. The Drakes were recently honored as the second “legacy family” at UNMC.

College of Nursing ranks 21st in NIH research funding
The story behind the UNMC College of Nursing reaching new heights in federally funded research is one of strategy, vision, determination and teamwork. The college, which had no research funding from the National Institutes of Health a decade ago, ranks 21st in NIH research funding for schools of nursing in the most recent rankings.

Legislators approve budget bill
Nebraska lawmakers overrode two vetoes pertaining to the University of Nebraska on Tuesday, meaning NU will see a 4.7 percent reduction in its state appropriation in 2003-2004.

UNMC honors minority graduates at reception
Ten underrepresented minority students who graduated recently from UNMC were recognized May 6 at the annual Minority Graduate Recognition Reception. Sponsored by UNMC’s Office of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs, this year’s program was held at the Omaha Woman’s Club Mansion, 518 S. 38th St.
