COM resident of the month

Rees Adomako, DO

Name: Rees Adomako, DO, MHS

Medical school you attended/year you graduated: Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2015

Residency/fellowship at UNMC: Internal Medicine

Program director: Tammy Wichman, MD

How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC?

Internal medicine is a three-year program. I am in my second year of training.

What do you like the most about your training program?

I like my co-residents and fellows, as well as the leadership I work with. Everyone is genuinely supportive and trustworthy, which makes it easy to establish a great working relationship. Also, I like all my current mentors and the many resources available to me to excel as a physician.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?

Challenges that I foresee include a lack of diversity in trainees and leadership in the different specialties in medicine to reflect the diversity in the patient population we take care of. I think more effort needs to be put in place to ensure people of all backgrounds are well represented in patient care.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:

  • Being able to support my family and help others in need.
  • I had the opportunity to serve as a naval officer/physician and led a medical crew that cared for marines and sailors.
  • I served as the division officer for the Medical Readiness Department under the Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
  • I presented my research at National ACP, American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology conferences.
  • Being a member of the Internal Medicine DIVERSE Taskforce to help eliminate health care disparities.

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

  • I enjoy traveling with my family and finding good places to eat.
  • I have never gone mountain climbing.
  • I am horrible at board games.
