UNMC for the record

Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Pamela Carmines, Ph.D., professor in the department of cellular and integrative physiology and vice-chairwoman of graduate education, was elected to the American Physiological Society 13-member governing body. Today, the APS has more than 10,500 members and publishes 14 peer-reviewed scientific journals with a worldwide readership.

Gary Beck, Ph.D., adjunct instructor and coordinator or pediatric undergraduate medical education, received the first Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) Award for Excellence in Clerkship Administration.

Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, was re-elected to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing board as secretary. She also has served as AACN Task Force chair and liaison on the Master’s Essential Tool Kit, and as a member of the Task Force on the Essentials of Nursing Education for the Doctor of Nursing Practice.

The UNMC chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists was named one of the nation’s outstanding chapters at schools and colleges of pharmacy by the American Pharmacists Association at the recent APhA-ASP annual meeting in New Orleans. UNMC was awarded second runner-up in Chapter Achievement in the AAA division (schools of up to 350 students) for 2010-11. The award is based largely on the patient care activities that a chapter conducts during the year. UNMC has previously been a first-place winner of the award.
