UNMC for the record

Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Kathy Morris, D.N.P., is the 2012 recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Frank L. Cole Nurse Practitioner Award.

Catherine Bevil, Ph.D., and the Continuing Nursing Education team received word from the American Nurses Credentialing Center that the UNMC College of Nursing CNE program was awarded accreditation again for the full four years possible. The program was accredited with distinction, which is the highest level of recognition possible.

Sue Barnason, Ph.D., and Mary Cramer, Ph.D., have been selected to be in the 2012 Class of Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing. The honor recognizes their accomplishments and potential for sustained and ongoing contributions to nursing and health. Drs. Cramer and Barnason will join a group of more than 1,800 nurse leaders in this work, including eight other fellows among the college’s faculty. The induction ceremony will take place during the annual AAN meeting in Washington, D.C., in October.

Twelve UNMC College of Nursing faculty, students and former students from across Nebraska recently received “Forty Under Forty” awards from the Nebraska Action Coalition during an awards reception in Lincoln. The coalition was formed in 2011 to address the future of health care in Nebraska through nurse-led collaborative partnerships. The award recognizes 40 young nurse leaders who demonstrate expertise in their field, adherence to high ethical standards, and leadership. The UNMC honorees were:

  • Elizabeth Beam;
  • Nicole Blaser;
  • Alison Bruckner;
  • Nicole Colgrove;
  • Joe Council;
  • Shane Fleming;
  • Kelley Hasenauer;
  • Heidi Keeler;
  • Tiffany Moore;
  • Melisa Paradis;
  • Heather Swanson; and
  • Heather Talbott.

Susan Barnason, Ph.D., has been named by BSNtoMSN.org as one of the Top 100 Nursing Professors in 2012. The honor is based on a variety of factors including awards and recognition earned, quality and quantity of academic publications, recommendations from peers, student reviews and academic rankings of represented nursing schools.
