Karen Honeycutt, assistant professor in the University of Nebraska Medical Center School of Allied Health Professions, has been named director of UNMC's clinical laboratory science program, effective Feb. 2.
"I am delighted to have Karen assume the role of program director for the clinical laboratory science program," said Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., senior associate dean for the School of Allied Health Professions. "She is exceptionally well regarded in the profession and at UNMC. She has been instrumental in advancing clinical laboratory science education, and her vision for the program will ensure its continued advancement and success."
Honeycutt, who is from Omaha, replaces Linda Fell, who is retiring after more than 20 years in the program. Honeycutt has been a faculty member since 1996 and been a leader in developing its distance education curriculum.
She has been the CLS program's associate director since 2006. She also has chaired the National Board of Certification Microbiology Examination Committee of the American Society for Clinical Pathology since 2009 and is past president of the UNMC Faculty Senate.
Honeycutt is a UNMC alum and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in educational studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
