Facilities tips to know as winter hits

Winter has officially arrived and with it comes daily bitterly cold temperatures and chances for inclement weather.

Facilities offers a few reminders when it comes to cold, snowy weather at work.

  • Be extra cautious when navigating on foot or in the car.
  • Help facilities ensure the interior of buildings stays warm and safe by making sure doors are closing upon entry and that any exterior doors are not propped open.
  • If colleagues feel like their area is uncomfortably cold and something is wrong, they should submit a work ticket as soon as possible to prevent anything from potentially freezing and becoming a larger problem.
  • Look for any leaks, drips or signs of broken pipes.

For any non-emergency facilities issues, call the Facilities Help Desk at 402-552-3347 or submit a facilities request. This facilities request system is designed to process two main types of requests. After accessing the system, choose one of the following options:

  • Choose Maintenance Request for any maintenance/repair items performed by building services technicians.
  • Choose Service Request for help with construction, furnishings, signage, floor plans and space information.
  • A list of items that maintenance covers can be viewed here.

For facilities emergencies, colleagues should contact Public Safety, who can get ahold of the facilities team via two-way radios. This is the same process for exterior snow removal concerns.
