Med center colleagues reminded to park in assigned lot

When the mornings are chilly, and maybe someone is running a couple minutes late, it sure can be tempting.

The patient lots, especially those close to the Durham Outpatient Center (green parking) and outside of Clarkson Tower (orange parking, sometimes called Lot 1), may look like they have plenty of room early in the day. And people may find themselves thinking, “What’s one more car?”

However, when staff take up the stalls reserved for patients and visitors, it can create challenges for them. Sometimes, patients and visitors have mobility issues that require them to be near an entrance. Other times, they’ve memorized how to get to their appointment from one particular door. If the lot near their entrance is full, they are lost.

To make other arrangements

If someone will be on the Nebraska Medical Center campus as a patient or visitor, contact Parking Services at 402-559-8580 for permission to park in a patient lot. Vehicles that are parked outside of their assigned lot are subject to a citation. If someone is looking for a change in parking arrangements, join a wait list for a preferred lot through Parking Services.

Look into TravelSmart
Colleagues also can check out the TravelSmart program, which may allow for better parking options if a carpool partner is assigned to a closer lot. Through the TravelSmart program, UNMC colleagues also can take advantage of the Omaha Metro buses, including the newer ORBT service, which has buses every 10 minutes during the week.

There are 8 cars in this picture parked in violation of the parking handbook.

    How to Park:
The required method of parking is with the front end of the vehicle pointed into the parking stall. All employees that park in a parking garage on campus must park with the front end of the vehicle pointed into the parking stall.
