Connect magazine highlights UNMC’s people, projects and pixels

The 2023 edition of UNMC’s Connect magazine is out and available online.

The publication offers updates from around UNMC, including a spotlight on the “Only in Nebraska” campaign from UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, a profile on the work of Sunil Hingorani, MD, PhD, director of the Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence, and a celebration of the trailblazing career of the late Reba Benschoter, PhD.

The cover story – “Behind the lens: A photographer’s view” – highlights the work of UNMC, as captured by Kent Sievers.

Read all the stories from UNMC in Connect magazine online.

In 2019, Sievers left a long career with the Omaha World-Herald to join UNMC Strategic Communications, where he captures day-to-day magic campuswide. The latest Connect showcases Sievers’ “Pixel Perfect” photography, documenting some of the thousands of people from all walks of life uniting at UNMC to improve lives.

“Magic happens when I pick up a camera,” Sievers said. “It started in high school while shooting a yearbook assignment with my first real camera, a 35mm Canon FTB. In that instant, I instinctively knew how to capture and share what others might not see.

“After nearly 50 years behind the lens, I’ve captured the best and worst in this world, had grand adventures and met delightful people. Best of all, I’ve been lucky enough to make people smile and see new perspectives.”

UNMC Connect is published annually by Strategic Communications and Alumni Relations at UNMC and the University of Nebraska Foundation.
