Meg Trewhitt, nurse practitioner at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, is among the speakers at a webinar series organized by the Nebraska Collaborative Investment in Nurses.

The Nebraska Collaborative Investment in Nurses will offer three webinars in the coming weeks to promote wellness in the nursing profession.

The collaborative was formed to deliver wellness interventions and resources to address and reduce burnout and behavioral health conditions in nursing students, RNs and APRNs, with a focus on rural and medically underserved areas.

Registration information and links are available at this flier. The webinars are:

  • April 10, via Zoom: Speaker Cynthia Clark, PhD, will discuss “Achieving Civility Excellence. Best Practices to Foster Healthy Work Environments.” Dr. Clark is a professor emeritus at Boise State University, founder of Civility Matters and an award-winning scholar and author. She will offer a dynamic experience exploring the relationship between workplace stress, aggression and maladaptive communication styles. This includes a conversation regarding elevated stress levels, which may contribute to incivility and bullying behaviors.
  • April 17, via Zoom: “When the Helper Needs Help: Understanding and Managing Secondary Traumatic Stress.” Speaker Stephen Lassen, PhD, professor of pediatrics and psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center, will discuss communication and debriefing strategies essential for creating a supportive environment in the aftermath of critical incidents.
  • April 24, via Zoom: “Mindful Communication, Peace of Mind.” Speaker Meg Trewhitt, nurse practitioner at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, will discuss communication skills and strategies that promote collegiality, teamwork and functionality.

These activities are designed for nurses and other interested health care professionals, and continuing education will be offered. For more information and to register, visit the UNMC College of Nursing Office of Continuing Interprofessional Development and Innovation website.

Aimed at serving all of Nebraska, the Nebraska Collaborative Investment is a partnership of the UNMC College of Nursing, UNMC College of Public Health, Nebraska Center for Nursing, Nebraska Board of Nursing, Nebraska Hospital Association and the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
