The UNMC College of Public Health, in partnership with the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health, held the 14th annual Agricultural Health & Safety Course for Medical and Safety Professionals.
Over four days from July 8 through 11, 96 registrants engaged in a program covering critical rural and agricultural health and safety topics.
Designed for a variety of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, veterinarians, public health professionals, ag extension personnel, EMTs, students and safety experts, the course offered a blend of lectures, interactive sessions and hands-on experiences.
The course provides enhanced recognition, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of occupational and environmental health issues in rural and agricultural settings. A wide range of topics are covered, from antibiotics to zoonotic disease control, with insights into safety hazards, trauma care and use of personal protective equipment tailored to farm environments.
Participants earned both continuing education and academic credit through UNMC’s Continuing Education Department and the UNMC College of Public Health.
Attendees came from across the U.S. and internationally. Presenters represented a wide range of expertise that included infectious disease, ergonomics, toxicology, respiratory health, trauma, women’s health, injury prevention and mental health for agricultural workers.
In-person participants received a tour of the Eastern Nebraska Research & Education Center near Mead, Nebraska. Participants observed real-world agricultural operations and gained practical exposure to farm-based biosecurity strategies, zoonotic disease prevention and occupational risk controls.
The course stands as a cornerstone of CS‑CASH engagement, offering free registration and high-value content to those committed to safeguarding rural communities. By equipping professionals with cutting-edge knowledge and practical tools, the program supports the prevention of farm injuries, zoonoses and occupational exposures.
Excellent course!
