E-Learning offering accessibility training

The UNMC Office of Interactive E-Learning is advancing UNMC’s commitment to accessible learning materials through intentional design and training as part of the University’s commitment to Title II accessibility.

As part of their efforts, e-Learning has developed a new checklist and training for developing interactive e-modules that go beyond automated tools. “E-modules combine multimedia and interactive elements, so the accessibility requirements may not be apparent. That said, Title II compliance is achievable with a clear process and intentional instructional design,” said Steph Langel, instructional designer.

The UNMC E-Gallery houses UNMC’s repository of interactive, evidence-based curricular e-learning modules. Most of the more than 400 e-modules are open access and used by UNMC as well as universities and students globally. These modules already support accessibility for the majority of users; the modules are being updated by e-Learning to meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements, available at this link.

To further support accessibility efforts on campus, the UNMC Office of Interactive E-Learning is offering a training session on creating accessible e-modules using Articulate Storyline. This training is open to UNMC and Nebraska Medicine faculty and staff.

The webinar will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at noon via Zoom. It will focus on updating existing modules, as well as a workflow to develop new modules so they meet Title II compliance requirements.

This training will focus on the use of Articulate Storyline 360, how to use its built-in accessibility tools and other considerations needed to make accessible modules.
