Interim dean’s message: Welcoming summer with energy and purpose

Karen Gould, PhD, interim dean of UNMC Graduate Studies

Summer is here following a strong and productive spring semester. I hope you are finding time to rest and recharge, even as our work and scholarship at UNMC carry forward throughout the season.

Earlier this month, the Nebraska Board of Regents approved the appointment of H. Dele Davies, MD, as UNMC’s ninth chancellor, taking effect July 1. Dr. Davies joined UNMC in 2012 as the vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies. As dean, he was deeply committed to serving our graduate students with his thoughtful, future-oriented leadership. We’re excited he will continue to serve UNMC as our new chancellor.

Thank you for helping make the 2026 Greater Good Giving Day a tremendous success. Together, we raised more than $8,500 to support Graduate Studies initiatives — an investment that directly advances our students and programs. We are grateful for your continued support.

In this issue of Graduate Posts, you’ll have the chance to read about the impact of AI in Graduate Studies and across campus, as well as highlights from the May convocation. Please stay connected by following us on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook, and be sure to check our calendar for upcoming events and opportunities to engage.

As summer unfolds, take time to reflect and refocus — but also to look ahead. Each season brings new opportunities for professional growth and discovery. And please take advantage of the many unique opportunities that the summer months provide to connect with nature and engage with others. Thank you for being part of the UNMC Graduate Studies community.
