Several congratulations and thanks are in order.
First, congratulations to H. Dele Davies, MD, following the decision of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents on June 18 to name him as the ninth chancellor of UNMC, effective July 1. We look forward to the continuation of the strong leadership he has shown throughout his career at UNMC and, most recently, as interim chancellor.
Second, congratulations to each of the many residents and fellows who are completing training with us this month. We wish you the best of success in the next phase of your career, and we thank you for your contributions to the care of our patients over the course of your time here.
Third, thanks to Wendy Grant, MD, as she finishes a decade and a half in the dean’s office, most recently as senior associate dean for admissions and academic affairs. Dr. Grant has been instrumental in the success of scores of UNMC graduates over that time. She announced several months ago that she was stepping down to return to full-time effort as a transplant surgeon.
Finally, thanks and congratulations to Angela Hewitt, MD, James Lawlor, MD, and Mike Wadman, MD, in the UNMC College of Medicine, and John Lowe, PhD, in the UNMC College of Public Health, as well as their teams, for their outstanding response to the monitoring and care of the individuals transported to Omaha following their potential exposure to the Andes hantavirus.
We have come to expect this from this group, so their exceptional effort has been no surprise. Thanks as well to those who stepped up and took on additional responsibilities to free up others to work in the Nebraska Biocontainment and National Quarantine Units.
I wish you all a safe and pleasant Fourth of July holiday as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
