A campus committee soon will begin a comprehensive review of UNMC’s chief academic officer, Jane Meza, PhD, who is serving as interim vice chancellor for academic affairs.
UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, has tasked the review committee with evaluating Dr. Meza, who has served in the interim role since July 2024.
The committee, which will be co-chaired by Chris Kratochvil, MD, vice chancellor for external relations, and Brad Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, will hold its kickoff meeting July 17. From there, they will meet with and organize interviews with key internal stakeholders and compile feedback for the chancellor.
Beyond Drs. Kratochvil and Britigan, committee members include:
- Sarah Gloden Carlson, JD, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs and chief compliance officer
- Peggy Moore, director and instructional designer, UNMC Office of Interactive E-Learning
- Linda Love, EdD, director, UNMC Faculty Development
- John Hewitt, JD, senior associate general counsel, University of Nebraska
- Tammy Webster, PhD, dean, UNMC College of Allied Health Professions
- Gerry Kugel, PhD, dean, UNMC College of Dentistry
- Phil Covington, EdD, associate vice chancellor for student success
- Allie Daro, UNMC student regent
- Paul Fey, PhD, vice chair of research, department of pathology, microbiology and immunology, UNMC College of Medicine
- Lisa Willard, academic affairs representative on the UNMC Staff Advisory Council
- David Crouse, PhD, professor emeritus
- Kim Eriksen, administrative associate II, vice chancellor for external relations and UNMC Chancellor’s Office
- Sharon Secora, administrative associate II, UNMC College of Medicine
- Anne Bowen Fischer, director of strategic relations and senior associate to the chancellor
As interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, Dr. Meza has continued her work in global engagement and strategic planning. She also is a professor in the UNMC Department of Biostatistics.
Dr. Meza previously served as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. She’s also held positions that included interim executive director for health security, created as part of UNMC’s response to COVID-19, interim dean of the UNMC College of Public Health, chair of the UNMC Department of Biostatistics and senior associate dean of the UNMC College of Public Health.
She joined UNMC in 2000 after earning her doctoral degree and master’s degree in statistics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
