Repairs continue after water line leak

The Durham Outpatient Center

Teams continue to work to restore all of the Durham Outpatient Center and Medical Sciences Building to normal operations as soon as possible after a chilled water line leak.

The amount of damage from the water line leak that occurred on July 20 on level five of DOC and impacted subsequent levels has resulted in a large scope of repair work to various clinic and office areas. Teams from across the health system have been working diligently to restore operations to the clinics and spaces impacted at DOC and MSB.

Below is an updated timeline for returning to normal operation:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 5 – level two, Heart and Vascular (remaining areas) and Medical Sciences Building (MSB)
  • Friday, Aug. 7 – ground level, room 0626
  • Wednesday, Aug. 12 – level two, CornerStone Gifts; and level three, Family Medicine clinic and MSB
  • Sunday, Aug. 16 – Medical Sciences Building
  • Wednesday, Sept. 2 – levels four and five, Durham Outpatient Center

The UNMC Dental Clinic on level three has resumed operations.

Please note that this timeline is based on the scope of impact extensive repair/restoration work required; not by priority.

Clinic staff is continuing to contact patients directly with affected appointments to reschedule them, either at a later date, via telehealth if applicable, or at another clinic location.

“Thank you to everyone who has been working tirelessly, whether it’s helping to restore these spaces to normal, welcoming colleagues into new locations or working with patients to ensure we continue to deliver the high-quality care they expect from us,” says Kyle Skiermont, PharmD, Nebraska Medicine chief operating officer. “It’s times like these where our values of Teamwork and Innovation shine brightly.”
