What if wellness was more than a workout?
The Center for Healthy Living (CFHL) at UNMC has introduced “Fitness First, Wellness Integrated,” an approach that places movement at the center of a broader wellness experience.
“While many know us as a fitness facility, our vision extends far beyond the gym floor,” said Andrea Swett, manager of the CHFL. “At CFHL, we believe wellness is interconnected.”
Studies have shown that physical activity can improve energy, reduce stress, build confidence, strengthen social connections and support overall well-being, Swett said. That is why CHFL programs, services and partnerships are guided by the eight dimensions of wellness: physical, social, emotional, spiritual, financial, intellectual, occupational, and environmental wellness.
“’Fitness First, Wellness Integrated’ reflects our commitment to supporting the whole person. Whether you are looking to become more active, learn something new, connect with colleagues, or develop healthier habits, CFHL is here to support your wellness journey.”
This fall, faculty and staff can look forward to:
- Wellness education sessions covering topics such as fitness, nutrition, women’s and men’s health, general wellness, deconstructing fitness trends and more.
- Campus wellness challenges and programs designed for all fitness levels.
- Collaborative initiatives with campus partners that promote wellness across all eight wellness dimensions.
- An expanded group fitness schedule featuring strength, cardio, yoga, mobility and more.
If it has been a while since your last visit, here are just a few of the resources available:
- Group fitness classes included with membership.
- Cardio floor and comprehensive weight training area.
- Multipurpose courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, badminton and more.
- Private locker-room showers for comfort and convenience.
