Senate candidate Raybould tours UNMC

In September, Jane Raybould, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, visited UNMC to meet with university leaders and tour the campus.

Raybould toured the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub during her visit, meeting with Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external affairs, and Mark Bowen, director of government relations.

The visit was Raybould’s first to UNMC as a senatorial candidate.

“I am very aware that UNMC is on the cutting edge of all kinds of health-related technology and all kinds of health issues,” she said. “It’s been my intention to come and visit UNMC, because as I travel throughout the state of Nebraska, health care is the number one concern. And as I travel throughout the rural areas of Nebraska, it is fundamentally so important that people have access to treatment and care.”

Raybould, who often speaks of the “silicon prairie” in Lincoln, was impressed by the innovations at UNMC.

“I care deeply about making sure that we deliver the highest quality health care to all of our folks in Nebraska, because that matters. I think it’s facilities like UNMC that are the economic engine that allow us to attract more folks to come and stay in Nebraska and to retain the best and brightest we have,” she said.

“We want our state to continue to grow, and it’s these innovative programs and ideas that are attracting people to come to our state.”
