Departmental Mentoring Recognition Luncheon

The Departmental Mentoring Recognition Luncheon was held on Friday, August 30th. This event honors those who have participated in the mentoring program over the past year, and those who contribute to departmental faculty development efforts. Division, department, and college leadership were all in attendance. Dr. Cliff Miles was honored with the Clinical & Educational Mentoring award for 2019 – our congratulations and thanks to him for his dedication in faculty mentoring!

A few selected comments from Dr. Scott Westphal's nomination letter: "I have had the distinct privilege to work closely with Dr. Clifford Miles, and his outstanding mentorship has been critical for my career development. I appreciated that I could always turn to Cliff for advice on managing a complicated patient or situation.  Yet, from the beginning, even though he had a great deal more experience that I had, he never treated me like I was beneath him, but rather as an equal with a valuable perspective. Dr. Miles’s ongoing mentorship has been instrumental to my development as a clinician and faculty member at UNMC, and has been one of the things that has made working at UNMC so enjoyable for me.  I am confident that he embodies all of the qualities that make someone a great mentor.  I am sure if he is asked, he would humbly downplay any role that he has had in my career development, but in writing this, it is my hope that he would be awarded and honored for all of the selfless time and effort he has made to guide my career."

Congratulations to Dr. Miles, all of the mentoring program participants, along with the Faculty Development Task Force, and leadership who support these ongoing efforts.
