Chandran Achutan, Ph.D.

Chandran Achutan, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of environmental, agricultural, and occupational health, is one of the many new faculty members on campus.

Name: Chandran Achutan, Ph.D.

Title: Assistant professor in the department of environmental, agricultural and occupational health, College of Public Health

Duties: Research and teaching in occupational health.

Research Interests: Evaluating occupational and environmental health exposures and controlling or reducing these exposures. Specific interests include occupational noise exposures and hearing loss, indoor air quality, dust and pesticide exposures among farm workers, heat stress, physical and chemical environmental exposures, environmental tobacco smoke exposure, international health and occupational stress.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia;
  • Master’s degree in preventive medicine and environmental health at the University of Iowa;
  • Ph.D. in occupational and environmental health (Industrial Hygiene) at the University of Iowa.

Previous positions: Industrial hygienist at the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH); assistant industrial hygienist and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Iowa.
