403(b) SRA info missing from mailed 2002 W2 forms

For those UNMC employees who took part in the 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Account (SRA) in 2002, the recently mailed W2 tax forms are missing required data. This is a university-wide situation and affects employees participating in the 403(b) SRA plan at all four NU campuses and in central administration.

Employees who did not participate in the 403(b) plan are not affected.

“Replacement W2 forms containing the correct information will be mailed on Friday (Jan. 31),” said John Russell, executive director of UNMC Human Resources. “Those employees who are affected will want to hold off filing their tax returns until they receive the replacement W2.”

Russell emphasized that the missing information does not affect employees’ taxable income or their 2002 tax liability, but the IRS requires taxpayers to report this information. All other information on the W2’s that were mailed is correct.

The missing data should have been printed in Box 12 of the W2, with the letter code of “E”. The 457(b) salary deferral is correctly stated in Box 12 of the W2 with the letter code of “G.”

Employees with questions should contact the payroll office at (402) 559-7460.
