Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

John Schleicher, head of special collections and assistant professor in the McGoogan Library of Medicine, has been appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman to a three-year term on the Nebraska State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB). The SHRAB encourages, promotes and assists the advancement of programs to preserve and make accessible historical records in Nebraska.

The Munroe-Meyer Institute’s (MMI) Outreach Pediatric Behavioral Health Training Program was named one of 40 promising practices in a newly published document from the federal Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration. MMI was identified as one of nine integrated care programs that received recognition from nominations across the country.

Howard Gendelman, M.D., professor and chairman of the department of pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, has received three significant recognitions:

  • In September, he will be honored by his alma mater, Penn State College of Medicine, as one of the 40 individuals who has affected and shaped the school since the college graduated its first class 40 years ago;
  • He has been selected for the 2011 Herman Friedman Founder’s Award through the Society of NeuroImmune Phamacology (SNIP); and
  • He and his research colleagues have received strong reviews from the Journal of American Medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine for their latest textbook, the third edition of “The Neurology of AIDS.”
