Leave the space heaters at home

As the mercury drops, employees may get the urge to bring portable space heaters to work.

Don’t bother.

Portable space heaters have been banned on the UNMC campus since 2009 because they increase the risk electrical interruptions, fire and burns.

Trouble even when unplugged

Space heaters are illegal to use in certain areas of campus per fire codes and in the past fire marshals have levied citations when they found space heaters that were unplugged and stored.

Space heaters found on campus are removed and taken to the security office. They can be picked up by the owner and taken off campus.

Too cold in your area?

Facilities Management and Planning recently implemented an updated energy management policy that establishes standards based on national criteria for temperatures, humidity and lighting control.

When facilities is called about an area being too cold or too hot, the temperature is within space is checked to see if it is within the specified range and/or if the temperature management systems need work.

Temperature concerns on campus should be reported to the UNMC Facilities Help Desk at 559-4050.
