University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, made two visits to UNMC last week to sit down for meetings with leaders from around the campus.
Dr. Gold, along with Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, met with the UNMC Faculty Senate Executive Committee and UNMC Chancellor’s Council on Dec. 8. Then on Dec. 11, Dr. Gold talked with UNMC Student Senate leadership and the UNMC Staff Advisory Council Executive Committee.
Dr. Gold said he tries to visit all the NU campuses at least twice a year to meet with different campus leadership groups.
“It’s really about having an open dialogue and, more importantly, face-to-face communications and just listening to people, answering questions and addressing any concerns,” he said.
Dr. Gold said he expressed his gratitude for all of the faculty, staff and students’ hard work and their commitment to the future of the University of Nebraska.
He also said he reassured the participants: “In spite of all the head winds, cross winds, whatever may be facing us, we’re extremely stable; we’re continuing to grow.”
“My level of pride and admiration for them is literally boundless,” Dr. Gold said. “We have some of the hardest-working faculty, staff and students that I’ve ever seen in higher education, and with the advent of our new strategic planning process, I see nothing but continued progress on our Odyssey to the Extraordinary.”
Dr. Davies thanked Dr. Gold: “It’s great to have President Gold engaged with all the campuses, that he’s here to listen and to make sure all the things that the faculty, staff and students are thinking are heard as we work to align with his vision for the university. We are grateful for his leadership and the opportunity for our faculty, staff and students to speak directly, and candidly, with him.”
