Meet Kristine Hoagstrom, a PhD candidate in IGPBS cancer research.
What do you love about your research and field of study?
The thing I love most about my research project is how it spans several fields of study, including cancer biology and structural biology, allowing me to bridge disciplines and create a unique project that advances our understanding of pancreatic cancer biology and progression. I enjoy that my research challenges me while keeping my focus centered on discoveries that can ultimately help patients.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
After graduation, I plan to establish myself as an educator, serving as an undergraduate professor to help students build a strong foundation in science and pursue advanced education. I also plan to remain active in pancreatic cancer research through patient-focused studies, advocacy and independent investigation. My ultimate career goal is to continue promoting the study of pancreatic cancer through research, mentoring and teaching.
Why did you choose UNMC for your graduate education?
I chose UNMC for my graduate education because of its patient-focused and collaborative nature. I believe the reason for doing this research should always have the patient at the forefront, and this university truly reflects that value through its mission and culture.
What is on your bucket list?
I truly enjoy traveling and being in nature, so one thing on my bucket list is to visit all the national parks in the United States with my husband. Exploring these places together would be an incredible way to combine passion and quality time.
