Campus invited to celebrate alumni during reunion weekend

More than 500 alumni and guests will return to Omaha and the UNMC campus Sept. 18-19 for UNMC Alumni Reunion Weekend.

The weekend will bring together alumni from the UNMC Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy to reconnect with classmates, celebrate distinguished alumni and honor classes, and experience the continued growth of UNMC. Alumni whose class years end in 1 or 6 are celebrating milestone reunions this year.

Campus colleagues also are invited to register for the deans’ receptions and help celebrate this year’s alumni award recipients and honor classes. Registration closes on Friday, Sept. 4, and pre-registration is required. Register online.

Weekend activities for alumni will include:

  • Campus tour options featuring iEXCEL and the Wigton Heritage Center; the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and Chihuly Sanctuary; or a walking tour of campus.
  • A welcome back lunch featuring “AI That Cares for Everybody,” presented by John Windle, MD, founding director of the Center for Intelligent Health Care, professor of cardiovascular medicine, and Richard and Mary Holland Presidential Chair of Cardiovascular Science.
  • College-specific tours, presentations and deans’ receptions featuring college updates, recognition of alumni award recipients and honor classes, and opportunities to connect.
  • Special UNMC College of Nursing activities at the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, including contextual interviews, and an opportunity to explore the college’s special collections and archives.
  • 20 class parties hosted throughout Omaha.

The UNMC College of Medicine Dean’s Reception with Brad Britigan, MD, will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Truhlsen Campus Events Center on the first level of the Sorrell Center.

College of Nursing alumni award recipients

  • Sarah Neveills, PhD, Nursing Excellence Award
  • Melissa Holton, MSN, Dorothy Patach Spirit of Service Award
  • Bunny Pozehl, PhD, Distinguished Alumnus Award

The UNMC College of Nursing Dean’s Reception with Dean Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the Center for Nursing Science, Room 3030. The program also will recognize the Class of 1976 on its 50th reunion and the Class of 1971, whose members were unable to celebrate their 50th reunion five years ago.

College of Pharmacy

The College of Pharmacy Dean’s Reception with Don Klepser, PhD, will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in room 2006 of the UNMC Center for Drug Discovery and Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education. The program will include a state-of-the-college update and recognition of the Class of 1976 on its 50th reunion, followed by a reception in the atrium.

The college’s 2026 alumni award recipients were recognized during its May convocation.
