October marks Research Month at UNMC, an opportunity to recognize the faculty, staff and students whose work advances discovery and improves the health of people in Nebraska and beyond.
This year, that recognition feels especially meaningful. The research environment continues to evolve, bringing uncertainty and new challenges. Through it all, members of the UNMC research community have remained focused on their work, adapted to change and continued to move important research forward. That resilience is reflected in UNMC’s research-specific awards, which increased 35% last year, even as many peer institutions saw research funding remain flat or decline.
That work is supported by an outstanding research infrastructure. UNMC’s core facilities provide investigators with access to advanced expertise, instrumentation and capabilities that help keep our research on the cutting edge. At the same time, our clinical research teams continue to strengthen and expand opportunities for clinical trials, helping bring promising new approaches to patients and creating more opportunities for people to participate in research.
These are just a few examples of what makes UNMC’s research enterprise strong. Research Month gives us a chance to celebrate those accomplishments, learn more about the work happening across our campus and recognize the many people and teams who make it possible.
Throughout October, we encourage you to take part in Research Month events, beginning with the Research Month Kickoff and Core Facility Showcase on Oct. 7. We hope you will use the month to connect with colleagues, explore UNMC’s research resources and celebrate the work of our research community.
Thank you to everyone who contributes to research at UNMC. Your work, collaboration and commitment continue to advance our mission and strengthen the impact of UNMC research.
