Core Facilities Showcase kicks off Research Month

The Core Facilities Showcase will be held at the Durham Research Center.

UNMC Research Month officially gets underway Wednesday (Oct. 7), with the Core Facilities Showcase, a daylong event highlighting the technologies, expertise and shared resources available to support research across UNMC.

The showcase runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Durham Research Center, beginning with check-in, networking and a light breakfast in the DRC Commons.

Throughout the day, attendees can learn more about UNMC research resources and hear from researchers who use them. Sessions about specific core facilities will feature advanced microscopy, genomics, spatial profiling, flow cytometry and bioinformatics and systems biology. The morning also will include one-minute “Lightning Poster Talks,” followed by lunch, games and networking in the DRC Commons.

In the afternoon, the Showcase Fair will feature core booths, vendor exhibits, core-supported research posters and research-themed skill challenges. The Research Olympics, held separately in the DRC Auditorium, will give four-person teams a chance to compete in the” Micropipetting Relay,” “Name That Tissue,” “The Perfect Coverslip Drop” and “IRB Jeopardy.”

The day concludes with closing remarks, awards and recognitions from 4 to 4:15 p.m. Faculty, staff, students and trainees are invited to attend all or part of the showcase.
