Weekend activity alert – Bharat Mela at UNMC

Don’t forget that Truhlsen Campus Event Center in the Sorrell Center will be the site of the annual Rhythms of India/Bharat Mela event on Sunday.

The annual Rhythms of India/Bharat Mela event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 at UNMC.
What: Rhythms of India/Bharat Mela — is designed to highlight the various aspects of the Indian culture. The event will feature:
  • A quiz;
  • History competition;
  • Food vendors serving Indian food;
  • Displays from various states of India with their unique arts/crafts/dress; and
  • A cultural bonanza with traditional Indian dance and Bollywood.

When: 2-10 p.m.

Cost:

  • $10 for adults;
  • $25 for a family of four; and/or
  • $5 for people under 18 years old.

The event is open to the public.

Who benefits: Money raised from the event will fund multiple charitable events that the India Association of Nebraska has undertaked for several years. They include scholarships to UNO, Creighton University, donation to Blind Foundation, emergency food shelters and to organizations that promote education of girls in India.

In addition, this year the funds will be allotted to a new scholarship to be given to UNMC.
