The Second Annual Spirit Week Broomball Tournament gets underway Thursday at the UNMC Ice Rink.
What: The tournament pits student teams against each other in a battle for the Golden Broom. Broomball is derivative of hockey in which players trade:
  • Skates for shoes;
  • Hockey sticks for doctored broomsticks; and
  • Pucks for a ball about the size of a volleyball.

When: The tournament starts Thursday at 2 p.m. Games may be played on Friday if necessary. Games will last 20 minutes each. Tournament brackets and complete times will be published next week.

Who: All UNMC students are welcome to register teams to play. Four players are allowed on the ice for each team, including a goalie.

Registration: Registration costs $20 per team. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Student Outreach Fund. Contact Student Senate President Jeremy Peterson at 402-547-6646 by Monday to register a team.
