The New Investigator Award
New Investigator Awards go to outstanding UNMC scientists who in the past two years have secured their first funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense or other national sources.
New Investigators also had to demonstrate scholarly activity such as publishing their research and/or presenting their findings at national conventions.
Research focus:
Imaging and biosensing
The goal of my research is: To develop imaging agents that can be used for multiple applications, including helping to detect and guide removal of cancerous lesions, learning more about cancer biology, and finding ways to better detect and identify pathogenic microorganism.
My research will make a difference because: Early detection of disease provides more treatment options and can result in improved outcomes. In our primary research project, we are investigating ways to detect cancer earlier and then, once detected, remove the tumor more completely.
The best advice I’ve ever been given is:
Not from a single quote, but a book of inspirational passages my wife gave me soon after we started dating and before I went to graduate school. I still have it in my office now.
Three things you may not know about me are:
- I am the youngest of eight children.
- I studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria, during college.
- My wife, Sarah, and I have three children who love living in Omaha!
