Annual golf tournament to benefit UNMC student-run clinics

The sixth annual “SHARING The Green” golf tournament, which benefits three clinics run by University of Nebraska Medical Center students, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Players Club at Deer Creek, 12101 Deer Creek Drive in Omaha.

Omaha native returns from Louisiana to attend UNMC

When Mykayla Garrison left Omaha in 2000 to attend Xavier University in New Orleans, she couldn’t have dreamt of the circumstances surrounding her return. With Hurricane Katrina an all-too-recent memory, Garrison is trying to re-acclimate herself to Omaha. The third-year pharmacy student has enrolled as a visiting student at the UNMC College of Pharmacy.

Record number of students attending UNMC

A record number of students is attending the University of Nebraska Medical Center this fall, as UNMC’s enrollment topped 3,000 students for the first time. This fall, 3,002 students are enrolled at UNMC, an increase of 98 students (3.4 percent) from fall 2004.

Red Cross representatives on campus today

Representatives of the American Red Cross will be on the UNMC campus today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside the Nebraska Cafe for employees interested in contributing to the hurricane relief effort. All of the money collected will go to the disaster area. UNMC’s information on Hurricane Katrina can be found at http://www.unmc.edu/katrina.

Accreditation consultant to be on campus Sept. 15

A consultant/representative from the association that will re-accredit UNMC will be on campus on Thursday, Sept. 15. Robert Appleson, Ph.D, associate director of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), will meet with campus officials and accreditation leaders during his one-day visit. UNMC is an accredited member of the NCA.

Numerous UNMC employees have expressed an interest in aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina. UNMC will have an organized response to the devastating effects of the hurricane, said John Russell, assistant vice chancellor for human resources at UNMC.

A Web site dedicated to UNMC’s re-accreditation efforts has been posted. The Web site, www.unmc.edu/nca, is intended to provide information broadly about the re-accreditation process.

Surveys to assist UNMC’s re-accreditation efforts

UNMC’s faculty, staff and returning students will have the opportunity to share their views of UNMC during the next few weeks via electronic surveys that will be sent to their e-mail accounts. Survey data will be used as UNMC prepares for re-accreditation by the North Central Association of College and Schools.
