Diabetic soldier returns from Iraq, inspires others
Mark Thompson is on a mission. He wants to inspire other diabetics that if they manage the disease, they can lead an active, full life and, hopefully, be free from complications. Thompson, 29, should know. In 2000, he was diagnosed with Type I (insulin dependent) diabetes.

This year was no different – until the pediatric oncology team realized they had not three or four, but 14 on their desk addressed to “our UNMC family.”

Forums to address health disparities, Latino health issues
To address the issue of health disparities and the health care needs of the Latino population, the UNMC Center for Continuing Education is hosting two conferences this month. The first, “Eliminating Health Disparities,” looks at the role cultural competency plays in reducing health disparities in the minority population. The second conference, “Latino Health Issues for Primary Care Providers,” looks at achieving better health outcomes.
