UNMC party raises more than $8,400 for Nebraska AIDS Project
In spite of a major ice storm earlier in the day, more than 100 people attended the UNMC pre-party for the “Night of a Thousand Stars” event on Dec. 1, raising $8,420 for the Nebraska AIDS Project.

Seminar examines translational research’s role in autism program
Applying basic behavioral research principles in a treatment setting has allowed Wayne Fisher, Ph.D., director of the UNMC Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders and H.B. Munroe Professor of Behavioral Research, and his team to significantly improve care for those with autism and related conditions.

Program allows middle schoolers to enjoy a day at UNMC
Edwin Chavez wants to be a doctor. Leticia Lopez wants to be a registered nurse. Aimee Ramos wants to be a pediatrician. All of these students represent the future of medicine, even thought it will probably be another nine years before any of the seventh- and eighth-graders set foot in medical school.

Dr. Pamies receives one of the first Gershom Awards
Rubens Pamies, M.D., UNMC vice chancellor for academic affairs, received an inaugural award from Omaha’s new Gershom Empowerment Center. The award recognizes the unique contributions and service immigrants have made to the United States.
