Bike to work? Participate in commuter challenge
The medical center will be one of the Omaha companies participating in a friendly competition to promote bicycling as a means of traveling to and from work. The four-month challenge will be kicked off May 15 with National Bike to Work Week and a Mayor’s Bicycle Ride.

Sen. Nelson gets debriefing on mini-robots
Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson paid UNMC a visit on May 5 to get a first-hand look at what many think is the future of surgery — mini-robots. Awake on the operating table
Patients with chronic, debilitating pain from whiplash and other trauma are turning to UNMC and a unique surgical treatment program that enables them to recapture their lives. Unlike traditional surgery, however, these patients are awake on the operating table and the success of the operation depends upon their ability to feel pain during surgery.

The UNMC College of Nursing is working to ease Nebraska’s mental health shortage. The college just graduated its first class from a unique, new master’s degree, which enables them to address mental health issues, as well as the physical health issues of their patients.
