NU to sponsor ‘Kids Run the Ballpark Night’

The University of Nebraska is sponsoring “Kids Run the Ballpark Night” on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. Discount tickets for $5 are available until July 18 for UNMC and NHS employees, as well as UNMC students.

Running the ballpark

Kids interested in “running the ballpark” can go to http://www.oroyals.com/kids_ballpark.html to submit their application. The Royals will draw names to select 15 kids. Another 15 kids will be selected at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, from those who register at the ballpark on that day.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our employees to come out to the ballpark, enjoy quality Triple-A baseball, have some fun and just relax,” said UNMC community relations specialist Megan Addy. “It should be a lot of fun.”

Addy said that all four university campuses will participate in activities throughout the night, and kids will perform various ballpark tasks, such as ticket-taking, serving concessions and doing public address announcing.

First pitch for the Omaha Royals vs. Salt Lake Stingers game will be at 6:05 p.m. Stadium gates will open at 3 p.m.

In addition to various activities, campus mascots will be on hand to entertain the youngsters. UNMC’s mascot will feature a “Lil’ Red” with a lab coat and goggles. Others will include Louie the Loper (UNK); Durango (UNO); and Lil’ Red (UNL).

Employees interested in purchasing tickets should contact Addy at 559-4694 or maddy@unmc.edu by July 18. Payment is due on that date, and checks should be made payable to the Omaha Royals. Tickets also will be available between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. outside of the Nebraska Caf̩ on two dates РWednesday, July 9, Wednesday, July 16.
