  • Name: Stephon McNeil
  • Hometown: Minneapolis
  • Number of years at UNMC: 9

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

I attended a health fair in South Omaha and there was a lady who had a blood pressure reading that was “off the chain.” They called the paramedics out and rushed her to the hospital. That really stayed with me. That event could have possibly saved her life. I knew then that my heart was really in community work.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

Being an employee and a patient here at UNMC, I have been able to witness and experience the commitment to excellence in health care by the superb treatment and courtesy I received personally, as well as from meeting several faculty/professors on campus who take teaching and empowering our students very seriously.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I am a former cook. My specialty was seafood, which it so happens that I am allergic to. So I really couldn’t tell you if my cooking was good or not.
  • As a child, I sang with a traveling choir called the “Angelic Chorus.” We traveled throughout the U.S.
  • I love fishing for bass, bluegill and crappie in the beautiful 10,000 lakes of Minnesota.

I have the privilege of working with Stephon here at the COPH and he's a great guy who has a heart for people. He made me feel welcome when I first started working here and he always has a ready smile for anyone who happens across his path. Thanks for sharing, Stephon!
