An update on Jenny and Joanne

You may recall the UNMC Today story “Sisters, roommates, cancer fighters” about Joanne Kaslon and her big sister, Jenny Cich. Joanne (pronounced “Joanie”) was about to graduate from the School of Allied Health Professions as a radiation therapist. Jenny was fighting cancer for the third time.

Jenny Cich and her sister, UNMC School of Allied Health Professions student Joanne Kaslon.
They were going to be roommates at The Lied Transplant Center, fifth floor; cooperative care. Jenny was getting a stem cell transplant. Joanne was going be her big sister’s caregiver.

Three months later, Joanne says that Jenny is doing great. She finished radiation in late July.

Joanne will graduate from UNMC’s SAHP on Friday.

They took part in the July 20 Relay for Life at Haymarket Park in Lincoln.

“Her hair is starting to grow in,” Joanne said of her sister, “but not as fast as she would like.”

Jenny, who knows a thing or two about it, said support systems are important in anything you do, whether it be her illness or Joanne’s education.
