  • Name: Amarnath (Amar) Natarajan, Ph.D.
  • Title: Professor, Eppley Institute
  • Joined UNMC: 2009

Research focus:

  • Drug discovery

The best advice I could give a beginning researcher is: To be curious and the rest will fall into place.

The toughest lesson I’ve learned is: How to politely say no.

The best part of my job is: working with colleagues (Smitha Kizhake, Vashti Bryant, Ziyan Pessetto, Eric Kumar, Jamie Arnst, Elizabeth Blowers, Greg Hollis, Margaret Taylor, Jacob Contreras, Caroline Robb, Smit Kour, Hannah King, Rajkumar Rajule, Nick Palermo, Yogesh Sonawane, Saandeep Rana, John Napolean, Murad Bendjennet, Sydney Kubica, Sarbjit Singh, Jayapal Mallareddy and fellow faculty members) to come up with creative solutions to problems.

Three things you may not know about me are:

  • I struggled with languages (Hindi and Sanskrit) through high school/college and barely managed to pass them.
  • I enjoy writing grants but not so much reviewing them.
  • I am an imaginative chef (per my 14-year old daughter).
