Linda Cunningham has been appointed assistant vice chancellor and director of UNMC Human Resources, effective Sept. 1, pending approval by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents. In this role, she will provide executive leadership for all areas of human resources, supporting the university’s mission through strategic oversight of employee-focused programs, services and initiatives.
Cunningham steps into the permanent role after serving as interim director of human resources over the past year, during which she led her team through major initiatives including the transition to the SuccessFactors HR system, the launch of a year-round employee appreciation program and the administration of the campuswide employee engagement survey. She also is guiding process improvement efforts aimed at strengthening HR operations and service delivery.
“We are pleased – and fortunate – to have Linda serve as UNMC’s director of human resources on a permanent basis,” said Anne Barnes, vice chancellor for business, finance and business development at UNMC. “Linda’s extensive experience, background and understanding of HR issues make her the right person to continue leading the department.”
Cunningham joined UNMC in 1998 and has spent 19 years in UNMC Human Resources, where she has served in various leadership roles, including division director, assistant director and associate director. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
“I’m excited to step into this role permanently and continue building on the great work our HR team is doing,” Cunningham said. “Together, we’ll keep aligning our efforts with the university’s goals and making sure we have the right people and resources to support UNMC’s success.”
