Nominations are being accepted for UNMC’s highest research honors, recognizing faculty members whose work has advanced scientific discovery and individuals and organizations whose partnerships have strengthened the university’s research mission.
Nominations are open through July 24 for four faculty research awards: Scientist Laureate, Research Leadership Award, Distinguished Scientist Award and New Investigator Award. Nominations also are being accepted for the Community Service to Research Award.
Award recipients will be announced this fall and recognized during a campus awards ceremony.
The awards honor excellence across the research enterprise, recognizing faculty members for outstanding scientific achievement and leadership, as well as community partners whose collaboration has helped advance research that improves health and well-being.
Faculty awards are open to nominations from all members of the UNMC community. Award categories include:
- New Investigator Award: Assistant professors or higher who received their first independent national funding during the past fiscal year.
- Distinguished Scientist Award: Associate professors or higher with at least one year of service at UNMC and a demonstrated record of securing extramural funding at the institution.
- Research Leadership Award: Previous Distinguished Scientist Award recipients who have maintained consistent national funding and demonstrated research leadership at UNMC.
- Scientist Laureate Award: UNMC’s highest research honor, recognizing faculty members who meet the Distinguished Scientist Award criteria and have at least five years of service at UNMC before the award year.
Nominations for the faculty awards must be submitted through NuRamp using the Researcher Awards application.
The Community Service to Research Award recognizes individuals and organizations outside the University of Nebraska whose partnership, collaboration and support have strengthened research at UNMC. Only faculty members may submit nominations, although supporting letters may be provided by others. Community nominees may not be employed by the University of Nebraska. Nominations for this award should be submitted through the REDCap Community Awards form.
“Meaningful research depends on strong partnerships with the communities we serve,” said Ken Bayles, PhD, UNMC’s vice chancellor for research. “The Community Service to Research Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose commitment, collaboration and trust help advance research that ultimately improves health and well-being.”
