Weekly eTip – Excel Text to Columns feature

Question: Can you help me create a macro in Excel to split text in a column so that I can use it to better analyze my large spreadsheet? I’ve been struggling for days trying to figure this out.

With Excel, there are a number of easy-to-use functions you can use without having to create macros. For example, you can split text into separate columns, especially if there are some consistencies in the text such as symbols or text, using the Data tab option > Text to Columns. If you select the Delimited file type, then you can identify the characters on which to separate the text. You also can select fixed with file types.

You can perform a variety of other functions with data tables such as grouping and filtering your data. In addition to these functions, you can create impressive pivot tables which can summarize large spreadsheets in seconds. Learn more about Excel features in:
