NHS, UNMC & UMA will host a celebration today (June 12) to recognize employees for the successful implementation of HIPAA. Ice cream sandwiches will be served at the celebration, which will take place from 1-4 p.m. in the courtyard south of Swanson Hall.
Sharon Welna, associate director for information systems compliance and project planning in UNMC Information Technology Services, said that 12,500 members of the workforce across the campus completed HIPAA training. More than 25 policies and procedures were created or modified in each organization to comply with this new federal privacy legislation.
Ice cream sandwiches will be served in the c-store for third-shift employees, and arrangements are being made for off site locations to receive their treats. All NHS, UNMC & UMA employees are invited to participate in the event.
