The groundbreaking for the new Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education and Center for Drug Discovery will be held at 10:30 a.m. today.

UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the event, which will mark a new era of pharmacy education and research at UNMC.

Scheduled speakers include UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., Gov. Dave Heineman, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken, College of Pharmacy Dean Courtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., and others.

The $35 million project will completely replace and expand the now outdated education space of the College of Pharmacy and increase its research capacity with a new 85,000-square-foot facility on the UNMC campus.

Construction is expected to begin in February 2014, with projected completion set for July 2015.

The event will be held on the Scott Student Plaza.
