Myrna Newland, M.D.


The campus community is invited to a retirement reception to celebrate the careers of Myrna Newland, M.D., a professor in the department of anesthesiology, and Nancy Woelfl, Ph.D., director and professor, McGoogan Library of Medicine.

The tea runs from 2 to 4 p.m. June 20 in the Linder Reading Room on the second floor of the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education. Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., will make remarks at 3 p.m.

Dr. Newland’s area of interest included quality improvement in anesthesia, outcomes research, education and faculty development.

Dr. Woelfl has been a professional librarian for 45 years. She graduated from library school in 1968, became director of the McGoogan Library in 1987 and celebrated 25 years of service in 2012.

    I will miss these two very much. They have been an inspiration and a help to me, and I have enjoyed the programs that they created on campus and their company. Faculty Development courses won't be the same without Myrna announcing that there is no conflict of interest and Nancy sitting in the class!
    Nancy and Myrna have certainly earned some time to play, but the holes that they leave in the campus will be hard to fill.
