Jean Balsano

Jean Balsano will retire from UNMC this month after more than 27 years.

Balsano, who currently holds the position of project associate in administration, department of internal medicine, first came to UNMC in 1986 as a Kelly temporary worker for the College of Nursing.

She later joined internal medicine, first in the cardiology division, then the dermatology division and administration.

Balsano’s experience was a huge advantage for the department, said Lisa Runco, internal medicine administrator. Runco also called Balsano a versatile and tireless worker.

“She knows so much about everything, and she never turned down an assignment,” Runco said. “She is a wise person with a great sense of humor. Everybody will miss her.”

Balsano said she looks forward to spending quality time with her family. She plans to do volunteer work at her grandchildren’s school and travel with her husband – “A road trip with no timetable,” she said with a laugh.

Balsano said she would miss her co-workers.

“I’ve learned a great deal here, and a lot of people have mentored me,” she said. “I will miss all the friendships.”

Jean will be missed so much! I enjoyed sharing some of Conkling Hall with her when I was in that building many years ago! She and I had a lot of fun in those days.

We will miss you Jean, but look forward to seeing you from time to time as you cover special assignments for us. It will give us a chance to catch up and hear about all of your "road trips" with Ralph and the kids.
