Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

As the government relations specialist, I research and analyze federal, state and local policy activities with a focus on the potential impact that legislative and regulatory proposals might have on UNMC. I also help to coordinate the UNMC Delegates Program, a grassroots advocacy program designed to further the mission of UNMC by building community awareness of the impact of federal and state policies on UNMC.

Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a group working together to promote excellence at UNMC.

That UMNC is a special place is clear, even to a real newcomer. As the Government Relations Department exists in part to foster collaboration, I witness examples of groups working together every day. From large-scale public events to grant projects and research initiatives, the faculty and professional staff work hand-in-hand to further the mission of UNMC.

What is your favorite summer activity?

The annual family vacation in Wisconsin, where I spend a week with dozens of in-laws! Despite how it might sound, it really is a great time!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I spent six months in Syria in 2009 studying Arabic and working with the Iraqi refugee community.
  • As a college student studying at Creighton University, I had the great privilege of escorting Ted Sorensen, famed advisor to President Kennedy and Nebraska native, from Lincoln to Kansas City. Without question my most memorable road trip!
  • My wife and I are expecting our first child in December.
