Exterior demolition underway

The interior demolition of Swanson Hall is now complete and exterior demolition is underway. With an estimated 12,000 tons of material, it will take over 1,100 truckloads to haul the debris away. During this phase, excavators carefully separate materials such as concrete and steel for recycling. The demolition process is expected to last until the end of September and once complete, the team will begin excavation for the basement of the new Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Activities at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center project site are picking up, and changes are underway to accommodate the expanding construction site.

A portion of parking spots in Lot 3 will be used for emergency department patient parking to replace public parking spots annexed by construction. All employees assigned to Lot 3 should continue to park in this lot as no user will be displaced as a result of this change.

Construction in Lot 3 is ongoing, with an anticipated completion date of Sept. 20. During this time, UNMC is asking all drivers to exercise extreme caution for the safety of construction workers.

Signage notifying patients of available Lot 3 parking will be posted; however, patients will be encouraged to use valet parking. Upon entering the garage, the first available parking will be reserved for patient self-park, followed by valet parking. Current Lot 3 users will use access cards to pass through the relocated control barrier arm to private parking.

If you are a Lot 3 user and you have misplaced your card, please call or email Parking Services at 559-5842 to obtain a replacement.
