Celebrating Environmental Services Week: Meet Tami Howell

Tami Howell

Tami Howell

Each day this week — which is Environmental Services Week — we’ll get to know one of our campus environmental services workers who keep the medical center clean and running smoothly.

“Environmental Services Week is a perfect time to recognize UNMC’s hardworking EVS team,” said Paula LeGrande, EVS manager for Sodexo.

Today we meet:

Name: Tami Howell

Title: Environmental services worker

Years at UNMC: Three years

Buildings I work at: Mainly the Sorrell Center, but I’m on call “south of Clarkson,” which includes Wittson Hall, Poynter Hall, Maurer Center for Public Health, Bennett Hall, Durham Research Center I and II, Booth Administration Building, College of Nursing, Center for Nursing Science, College of Pharmacy, Home Instead Center for Successful Aging, Eppley Institute and Science Hall, Student Life Center and the Truhlsen Eye Institute.

Compliments accepted

If you’d like to applaud an EVS worker this week, leave a message in the “Comments” field below. Tell us who you want to thank and what a great job they do.

Favorite thing about UNMC: I like the fact that the campus is always growing and constantly improving. Even though I have to clean it — I love all of the glass in the buildings!

Three things you don’t know about me:

  • My son Jason was born at UNMC in 1990, and a senior nurse noticed he wasn’t breathing when I was holding him after surgery. She grabbed him off me and saved his life.
  • I’m a member of the Omaha Walking Club. I love walking, even with the amount of walking I do at work.
  • Wherever I go, I always get lost. No matter where it is or who drew me a map, I get lost. I don’t have much sense of direction.

Linda Osborn is the Lead in DRC II and I can't say enough about how wonderful she is. She always keeps me informed of what's happening and she leads her crew by example, always being one of the hardest workers. I also have to compliment "King" Louie, Tammy, and Larry (6th floor) – they always do a great job and with smiles on their faces. Having a great EVS team is one of the best things I could ask for!

  11. Connie Miller says:

Martha Carter works diligently to keep a clean, pleasant environment in the College of Nursing. I especially appreciate her efforts on the 3rd floor that houses the Learning Resource Center. This is an area of high traffic and is heavily used by students. Martha consistently keeps our space clean, tidy and welcoming to all students, faculty and staff who use the area. Connie Miller

Martha Carter is our EVS colleague in the College of Nursing CON building. She is so very attentive in making our entire 3rd floor a comforting and welcoming area for our students. Martha always has a smile on her face. If she is on second floor in the morning and sees me coming up the walk, she will push the elevator button for me so it is there when I come in the building.
