The Pediatric Behavioral Health Consultation to Primary Care collaborative met last month to examine a successful model of pediatric behavioral health consultation for primary care and identify local resources available to establish a statewide model in Nebraska. David Kaye, M.D, director of training in child/adolescent psychiatry at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, spoke on the development of New York’s pediatric behavioral health consultation program, and Howard Liu, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry at UNMC, moderated a panel discussion on Nebraska resources that included Araw Nasir, M.B.B.S., assistant professor, general pediatrics for UNMC and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and Joseph Evans, Ph.D., director of psychology at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. The group, which included State Sen. Amanda McGill and representatives from Boys Town Research Hospital, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and other health organizations, meets again in October.
Dawn Venema, Ph.D., assistant professor of physical therapy education, won the “Achievement in Education Award” from the Nebraska Physical Therapy Association. She will officially receive this at the fall state meeting Sept. 28, during the business luncheon.
The Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce and the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff will hold an open house Sept. 19. The college recently relocated its nursing classrooms, clinic skills laboratories and staff to the Western Nebraska Community College John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room B132, 1601 East 27th St. in Scottsbluff. Members of the chamber will host a brief relocation ceremony between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m. UNMC faculty and students will be on hand to provide tours of its educational facilities. Refreshments will be provided.
